This is a list of resources I have found to be useful in both my clinical work and personal life. While I have separated things into to categories for ease of searching, I have found there to be great benefit in blurring the lines between categories. For example, sometimes children's authors explain abstract concepts in beautiful ways for adolescents and adults to enjoy. Sometimes parenting books can provide so much insight to adults doing inner child work. Basically, enjoy exploring this ever growing list and let me know if you have other suggestions for me to explore. Best, Pat
While the items on this list were designed to assist parents, many may also be beneficial those those who were ever parented or are in a relationship.
This weekly podcast is hosted by Dr. Becky Kennedy and provides "actionable guidance" to address parenting concerns in the form of practical steps and scripts. I have loved her approach of leading with self compassion and relationship rupture repair. She also has a book by the same name that is well worth the read.

This animated tv series features a Blue Heeler and her family. I recommend it as a show that explores ways for parents to be playful and connected to their children. We watch it on Disney Plus in our home.
I am a big fan of Brene Brown and admire her ability to present research in manageable and accessible ways. This short, animated video explains the difference between empathy and sympathy and can be so helpful in parent-child relationships and beyond.

This is an incredible resource of podcasts on all types of neurodivergence.
Co-created by an autistic woman and a neurotypical woman who are both OTs and researchers, this is their work to improve the conversation between two worlds. The website has a bunch of great worksheets to facilitate a collaborative conversation for family members and to be used in schools.
Some of you may know Josie Bohling as she has been my office suite mate for years. She is also a truly brilliant advocate for neurodiverse youth, and is motivated by her own personal experience of raising neurodiverse twins. She shares her wisdom on this podcast episode.

These items are for getting to better understand the various parts of ourselves, and the parts of our loved ones.
This Pixar film does a lovely job of illustrating the various parts that exist in each of us. It explores the various motivations, fears, and needs of these varied parts and how they work (both together and against each other) to serve us.
This illustrated book provides a clear description of the impact of trauma and a path to healing.
This book provides guidance for accessing our creativity and helping to better understand our critical parts. The author's tone is playful and and compassionate, which makes this a very pleasant read as well.

This picture book explores a family dealing with addiction.

These items are for building community and connections.
I have been attending Jan's studio art class for several years now and it has been a place for developing my skills as an artist, while also being a place to make connections with other folks in my community. Jan supports you in your work at any level -whether you are getting back into a practice or are a complete beginner. And the best part, all you have to do is show up as she will set everything up for you!
I have enjoyed this outdoor-based classroom with my young children. Sessions promote play, exploration, and being outdoors.
This "challenge" provides tools and strategies for getting outside more often. It has helped my family shift to a space of prioritizing outside time and simplifying the process, so that screen time really is a bonus and not part of our daily routine. Being outside can also connect you with your neighbors and other members of the community.
This is a way to access free, online yoga classes that can meet you at many levels of ability. I have enjoyed the 30 day challenges as a way to reset and connect with myself, and having friends that try it with me each year helps us stay accountable and motivated.
